Two Students Jailed For Stealing Cellphone

A Jos Upper Area Court on Thursday sentenced two students, Samson Francis and Earnest Charmbas, to one-month imprisonment each for stealing a cellphone worth N 57,000.

The presiding Judge, Irene Pati, sentenced Francis and Charmbas after they pleaded guilty to trespass and theft and begged the court for leniency.

Pati, however, gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N5,000 each.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Karim Bashiru told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police station Jos, on March 29, by Timzing Dogo.

He said the students broke into the house of Dogo and stole his Techno pop V worth N57,000.

Bashiru said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 59, 333 and 273 of the Plateau Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
