Two vagrants arraigned for stealing plates, cups in Oyo

Olamide Adeshina, aged 30, and Kayode Olofin, aged 29, appeared before a Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, accused of stealing 41 porcelain plates and 11 mug cups.

Despite the charges levelled against them, Adeshina and Olofin pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Latunji presided over the case and granted bail to the defendants. Each was required to provide N50,000 bail with two trustworthy sureties in similar amounts. Latunji subsequently adjourned the matter until May 18 for the commencement of trial.

Earlier, the prosecution, led by Inspector Oluseye Akinola, informed the court that the defendants committed the crime on May 12 in the Idiodo area of Challenge, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Akinola added that the duo was apprehended by the Felele division of the police patrol team at midnight while waiting for a vehicle that would convey the large carton for them.

He further stated that Adeshina and Olofin were arguing over how to share the stolen goods before the patrol team arrived at the scene to arrest them.

He noted that the defendants could not give any information on how they came about the carton containing 41 plates and 11 mug cups.

Akinola also said that Adeshina and Olofin stole five plastic chairs, one hand towel, a hand grating machine and a sack.
