U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets Lose To Burkina Faso, Fail To Secure World Cup Ticket

U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets Lose To Burkina Faso, Fail To Sec

Golden Eaglets have been knocked out of the ongoing Under 17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria following a 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso on Thursday.

This means that the Eaglets will not represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in November because they failed to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing AFCON.

The scoring was opened by Aboubacar Camara who put Burkina Faso in the lead following a defensive error from Tochukwu Ogboji.

While the Eaglets were trailing the game, proceedings went from bad to worse early in the second half.

Ogboji was adjudged to have fouled Lassina Traore in the 18-yard box and a penalty was given against Nduka Ugbade’s tutored side in the 57th minute.

Camara stepped to take the spot kick and converted it to increase the goal tally for his side.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, the Eaglets responded via a tap-in by Abubakar Abdullahi to reduce the goal deficit.

However, Abdullahi’s effort couldn't inspire a comeback victory as the game finished in Favour of the Young Stallions.

The countries to represent Africa on the global stage are Morrocco, Mali, Senegal, and Burkina Faso.
