The Executive Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Abdoul Aziz Dia has resigned from the lender's board days after the bank resumed operation.
UBA had joined other banks to shut down majority of its branches following lockdown directive after the outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.
According to a statement seen by Allnews, UBA said Dia's resignation was effective on May 6, 2020. The bank had previously reported that he was billed to retire during its Annual General Meeting this year. Before his retirement, Dia was a member of the Board Credit Committee.
He was also a member of the Board's Risk & Audit Committee and the Finance & General Purpose Committee. Reacting to Dia's resignation, UBA said, "In accordance with the Nigeria Stock Exchange Rulebook, we hereby notify the NSE of the resignation of Mr. Abdoul Aziz Dia, an Executive Director, from the Board of United Bank for Africa Plc, with effect from May 6, 2020.
UBA added that "The Board of United Bank for Africa Plc would like to express its appreciation to Abdoul Aziz Dia for his contributions to UBA Group." The statement signed by the company's Group Secretary, Bili Odum, disclosed.
Dia's resignation follows the retirement of Foluke Abdulrazaq from the Board of United Bank for Africa Plc. She retired after her tenure expired. Before Abdulrazaq's exit, she was the Non-Executive Director. She joined UBA Group in April 2008, before retiring on April 30, 2020.
Abdulrazaq was on the Board of UBA for 12-years. One of her major role while on the board was serving as the Chairman of the Board's Credit Committee.
