UCL: Benzema, Militao's Injuries Eclipsed Real Madrid's Emphatic 3-0 Win Over Celtic

UCL: Benzema, Militao's Injuries Eclipsed Real Madrid's Emph

Champions Real Madrid were emphatic in their opening game with a 3-0 over Scottish side Celtic on Champions League match day 1 with Karim Benzema and Eder Militao limping off due to injury.

Three different scorers emerged for Madrid -- Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard all got on the scoring sheet but all that was eclipsed by the limping off of Benzema.

This will send a shocking wave through the Spanish capital as their talisman was subbed off 30 minutes into the game.

According to Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid's manager "For the moment (Benzema) is nothing worrying. From the first evaluations, it's not too serious. We will wait to see what the medical examinations say in the morning. We don't know yet if it's muscular or not."

But with a game against Mallorca on Sunday, they might have to put faith in Eden Hazard who happens to be one of the goalscorers on the night.

Hazard came on for Benzema and after a superb finish from Vinicius and Modric, he topped it off with a tap-in from Dani Carvajal's cutback.

Ancelotti said " 'There were lots of winners in today's game particularly Eden Hazard who has come through with goals and assists. He is very motivated to play. It wasn't easy for him to come on because we were struggling in the first half but we coped better in the second half."

Another injured player is Eder Militao who also limped off.

Ancelotti added, "'Militao wanted to carry on but we didn't want to risk him. Overall our game in the second half was good, we controlled possession and when it was needed we were fast on the break so overall it was good."

Militao was replaced by new man Antonio Rudiger who was brought in from Chelsea to help in situations like this.

Overall, Madrid were the better side and even with injuries, they came up victorious against a "tough opposition" and they set their sight on the next match.
