French forward Karim Benzema scored a second-half hattrick to infuse life into Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid pulled a comeback win over star-studded Paris Saint-Germain to progress into the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Coming off the back of a 1-0 loss in the Ligue 1 to Nice, PSG looked more effective early on than Madrid who enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
The game was sparked into life by pacey Kylian Mbappe after he scored in the second leg to give PSG a 2-0 aggregate win over 13-time champions Real Madrid.
On a counter-attack, Neymar found Mbappe as he raced into the 18-yard box and with a little drop of his shoulder, placed the ball into the left-hand corner past Thibaut Courtois.
With his solo goal in France, PSG look to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the competition.
Until the 60th minute when Gianluigi Donnarumma's howler at the post when pressed on by Benzema dropped into Vinicius's legs and a cut back to the Frenchman was buried into the net.
The Santiago Bernabeu was resurrected.
After another 15 minutes of play, Madrid level the tie on aggregate and took the lead on the night with a sleek pass from Luka Modric finding Benzema onside.
Benzema slammed the ball past Marquinhos's stretched legs into the net, Donnarumma no chance!
From that point onward, PSG stood chance as they became cagey and continued losing possession cheaply to Madrid.
Real Madrid sealed their place in the quarterfinals after 2 minutes with Vinicius leading the charge but could not get past Marquinhos but fell kindly to incoming Benzema, with the outside foot, he sent a low ball into the net.
Game, set, match.
Real Madrid joined Manchester City to qualify for the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
