Lionel Messi, the star forward of Paris Saint-Germain, is facing a race against time to be fit for the crucial first leg of their round of 16 Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old Argentine suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday's French Cup match against Olympique Marseille, according to French sports daily L'Equipe. This has cast doubt on his availability for the highly anticipated showdown with the German champions on Tuesday.

Despite the setback, Messi has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 15 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions. He was instrumental in helping Argentina secure their third World Cup title in December and will be a huge loss for PSG if he is unable to feature against Bayern.

The Parisian club are already dealing with another injury blow, as Kylian Mbappe will miss the game due to a thigh injury picked up last week. This only adds to the challenge faced by PSG, as they look to secure a positive result in the first leg.

The second leg of the round of 16 match will be held on March 8 in Munich. With both Messi and Mbappe's fitness in question, it leaves only Neymar Jr as the only star to lead the charge for PSG in their quest for Champions League glory.
