UCL: Real Madrid, Man City settle Bernabeu clash in six-goal

Real Madrid and Manchester City played out an exciting 3-3 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night in one of the most entertaining and breathtaking quarterfinals games in recent UEFA Champions League history, reports Allnews.ng.

This first leg fixture being the matchup of two of the best European clubs at the moment had many twists and turns as their loyal supporters would have to wait until next week to ind out if their teams will be advancing to the semifinals.

City went in front barely a minute into the game with a deceptive freekick delivered by Bernardo Silva that caught the flat Madrid wall of defence by surprise with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin unable to keep the ball away.

Carlo Ancelotti's men restored parity by the quarter-hour mark as a Ruben Diaz own goal, via deflection after Eduardo Camavinga's rasping shot, left City stand-in keeper, Stefan Ortega stranded.

Madrid then led 2-1 when Rodrygo went past his markers with deft footwork and found the bottom corner by trickling the ball under the legs of Ortega.

Midway through the second half, Phil Foden curled a brilliant shot from 22 yards to make it 2-2 while defender Josko Gvardiol found himself in a position of promise outside the box in the 71st minute to let fly a powerful shot that had the ball find the net.

But Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde had something to say about the outcome of the contest as he grabbed a priceless third goal in the 79th minute with powerful low effort after Vinicious jn found him at the edge of the penalty box with a lofted pass from the left wing.

Both teams have a lot to play for as the return leg holds next week Wednesday at the Etihad stadium.
