Uganda Comfirms First Cases Of Omicron

There was apprehension in Uganda Wednesday after the country confirmed its first cases of the omicron variant of COVID-19.

The Omicron virus was detected in seven travellers from Nigeria and South Africa as they arrived the country and are currently in isolation.

The confirmation of omicron cases in Uganda means the new variant has now been found in at least nine African countries with South Africa being the epicenter of the omicron outbreak.

Since the rollout for vaccination began in early 2021, around 7.6 million doses have been administered in Uganda and more people are turning up to be vaccinated in the country.
