Uganda: First Batch Of Ebola Vaccines Arrives For Trials

Uganda has received a shipment of 1,200 ebola vaccine doses from the World Health Organization today, December 8, 2022.

Three vaccine options will be considered for use in the clinical trial: one from the University of Oxford and the Serum Institute of India, another from the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and a third from Merck & Co Inc.

Uganda's Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng and World Health Organization country representative Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam visited the Ebola clinical trial base in Kampala to make final assessments.

The two officials inspected the trial's equipment, which included the cold chain, personal protective equipment, study tablets for the research teams, and other medical supplies.

Since the outbreak in September 2022, over 140 ebola cases have been documented, with just over 50 confirmed deaths.
