Uganda: Roads Closed For President Museveni’s Birthday Eve

To ease VIP transportation to and from President Yoweri Museveni's 79th birthday celebrations on Friday, traffic police in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, have closed several city routes.

An estimated 100,000 people, including Ugandans from the capital and other regions of the country, will attend the birthday celebrations.

Senior Superintendent Godwin Arinaitwe, the head of the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police, said on Thursday that participants who are unable to use the closed roads can park their cars in Kampala's approved parking lots and walk the remaining distance to the event location.

He added that Ugandans who are inconvenienced by the road closures will be directed to alternate routes by traffic police.

The real birthday of President Museveni is on September 15.

The National Resistance Movement, President Museveni's political party, has sent youth to plan the Friday celebrations.

To get ready for the birthday celebration, local officials organised a clean-up effort on September 2 in Kampala and the Kololo Independence Grounds.
