Ugandan authorities on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, deported South African legendary singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka over visa irregularities.
The iconic star was prevented from performing by the immigration and security authorities on her way to the End of Year and New Year performance in Kampala, Uganda.
According to the statement from the Ugandan police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, Chaka Chaka, who was supposed to perform at the a show, titled “Enkuuka Y’Omwaka at Mengo” at the Buganda Kingdom was not allowed to play as she was escorted to the Entebbe International Airport, about 40km south of the capital to board a flight back to South Africa.
In a detailed statement, Fred Enanga said Chaka Chaka needs to update her visa from an ordinary visa before she can have access to any monetary activity within the country.
“The ordinary visa can’t enable her to perform in any income-generating activity within the country,” Mr Enanga said.
In response, the iconic musician released a 40 minutes video to refute the allegation that she was deported.
She claimed that she left on her own accord because she decided not to perform.
