UK, Ireland Added To U.S. Travel Ban List

The U.S. had announced plans to ban Europeans from entering into the U.S. as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus in the country. The U.S. Government had earlier said that the ban would not include the United Kingdom and Ireland, but in a turn of events, the country has decided to extend the ban to those countries.

U.S. President Donald trump said that the U.S. will “suspend all travel from the United Kingdom and Ireland” from Monday EST (0400 GMT Tuesday), this was dislcosed by the Vice President, Mike Pence at a White House news conference.

Pence said, “Americans in the UK or Ireland can come home. Legal residents can come home." He also stated that those "legal residents" would be “funneled through specific airports and processed.”

When he was questioned about any travel restrictions within the country, the VP said that the government of the U.S. was deliberating “a broad range of measures, but no decisions have been made yet.”

He said, “We’re going to continue to follow the facts.

Angry Europeans

Governments of European countries have lashed out against the initiated blanket travel ban and asking that the U.S. work cooperatively with them to combat the spread of the disease.

“I do believe it will be the same duration as the Schengen Zone,” an official speaking on the ban and the exclusion of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Trump's administration is also fighting to check those who travel through the UK and Ireland into the U.S., and as an official said to journalists on the issue, "that is proving operationally very difficult for us.”
