Are you planning to study in the United Kingdom? If so, here is a guide on things you need to know about the student visa and studying in the UK.

To study in the United Kingdom, international students must get a student visa. The types of student visas available will differ depending on the study programme and duration.

The types of visas are also determined by the age of the applicant.

Types Of UK Student Visa

1. Tier 4 (General) student visa for students aged 16 or over, and are offered a conditional offer letter for pursuing a course at a UK educational institution.

2. Tier 4 (Child) student visa for students aged between 4 and 17, and are offered a course at a UK-recognised educational institution with a valid Tier 4 sponsor, such as an independent fee-paying school.

3. Short-term study visa for students offered a short-term course in the UK, such as an English Language course or vocational course.

4. Tier 4 (General) student visa for students offered a course at a UK-recognised educational institution with a valid Tier 4 sponsor or scholarship.

Documents You Will Need To Apply For UK Student Visa

1. A current passport or other valid travel documentation.

2. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your course provider.

3. Your educational certificates and documentations.

4. Proof you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course.

5. Proof of parental or other legal guardian consent if you are under 18.

6. Proof of your relationship with your parent or guardian if you are under 18.

7. Written consent for your application from your financial sponsor if you’ve received sponsorship.

How to apply for UK Student Visa

A student visa must be applied for online. You will be required to prove your identity as part of your application. This is determined by where you are from and the type of passport you hold.

Tips

1. Apply as early as possible.
2. Book an appointment at VFS’s Visa Application Centre (VAC).
3. Submit your biometrics and supporting documents required for UK Student Visa.

A UK student visa interview is a personal interview that is required as part of the student visa application procedure.
