Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russian forces occupy about 20% of Ukrainian territory.
Zelenskyy, on Thursday, said that while his country is grateful for all of the aid it has received, allies need to step up weapon supplies to Ukraine.
His comments came a day after U.S. President Joe Biden said the United States is providing Ukraine with a $700 million package of more advanced rocket systems and munitions.
“This new package will arm them with new capabilities and advanced weaponry, including HIMARS with battlefield munitions, to defend their territory from Russian advances," Biden said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded and warned that the supply of rocket launchers to Ukraine raises the risk of expanding the conflict, and called Ukraine’s push for weapons a direct provocation intended to draw the West into the fighting.
The U.S. is also sending more helicopters, more than 200,000 artillery rounds, and a package of spare parts to help the Ukrainians fix their existing equipment.
