Umahi: Appeal Court Dismisses Case Seeking Removal Of Ebonyi

Ebony State Governor David Umahi has emerged victorious as an appeal court on Friday dismissed a suit seeking his removal and his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, from office.

The reason behind the suit is Umahi's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suit was filed by Senator Soni Ogbuoji, the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 election, and his running mate, Justin Mbam.

An Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo had sacked Umahi and 17 others in the state for leaving PDP and joining APC.

The suit had been struck out by a High Court sitting in Abakiliki on February 28, 2022, with Justice A.O, Belgore saying it was inconsistent with the constitution and extant laws on the nation.
