Umahi Suspends Commissioner, Principal Secretary, Others

Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has suspended three prominent cabinet members over an alleged negligence and dereliction of duty.

The suspended cabinet members include; Emmanuel Obasi, who is the Principal Secretary, Emmanuel Uguru, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey and Obianuju Alo, the SSA to Governor on Education.

The governor made this known in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Secretary to the State Government/Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Ugbala Kenneth on Friday in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.

He noted that the affected cabinet members will be on suspension for a period of one month.

Umahi noted that the affected government officials “have been directed to handover all government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, before the close of work.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, has approved the suspension of the Principal Secretary (PS) to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Obasi, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Uguru and SSA to Governor on Education, Dr. Obianuju Alo to proceed on one month working suspension, with immediate effect.

“The suspension is as a result of negligence and dereliction of duty.

“Consequently, Hon Emma Obasi is directed to handover all government property in his possession to the Office of the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, before the close of work on Friday, 7th January, 2022.

“All concerned are requested to take note and ensure strict compliance to this directive,” the governor noted.
