The United Nations mission in Sudan, has on Sunday condemned the arrest of a Sudanese female activist, claiming the detention was a reduction of women's political participation in the country.
The UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) said on Twitter on Sunday that; "We are outraged by arrest of women's rights advocate, Amira Osman"
The statement called for the activist's immediate release and urged the Sudanese authorities to respect the right to freedom of assembly.
The mission claimed Osman's arrest along with the pattern of violence against female activists risk reducing their political participation in Sudan.
On Saturday, the "No to Oppression of Women Initiative" disclosed that Osman, who is the initiative's chairperson, was detained by Sudanese security forces and taken to an unknown location.
