Undergraduates have been urged to embrace skill acquisition and other to help increase their relevance in the already competitive labour market.
This is was stressed at a webinar organised by the Student Association of the Department of Mass Communication, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti by Esan Femi Williams, a youth advocate of the students in Ekiti state.
He further urged that students and youths in general should not rely only on their academic certificates, but should broaden their horizon by acquiring skills relevant to their discipline.
The webinar lecture title “Your CV, your worth" was organized to equip students with skills on writing curriculum vitae and how to position themselves for available opportunities.
He further stated, saying:“Most graduates looking for white-collar jobs are not dullards; they are very intelligent, but unfortunately, many of them fail due to poor CV. It is not just about acquiring certificates but also acquiring necessary skills and know-how. However, there are some people who have a keen interest in reading and passing exams, but lack needed skills to practise. For instance, a professor of Mass Communication who doesn’t know how to write a good news story is a failure.”
