UNICAL Conducts Post UTME For 12,000 Candidates

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has commenced the Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for at least 12,000 candidates seeking admission into the institution for the 2021/2022 academic session.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Chairman of the Examination Committee, Prof. Takim Ojua said the examination commenced smoothly and will go on till October 27.

Ojua added that a technical team was set up to attend to issues surrounding registration and access to the portal throughout the exercise.

He described as “very tasking” the process of organising the candidates for examination for both the morning and afternoon sessions.

The Chairman noted that over 92 per cent of the candidates came to the examination centre with their bags and phones, against the committee’s directive.
“which posed an even greater challenge,”

He also warned that “staff members and parents should desist from coming to the venue to lobby for their wards", maintaining that “every candidate will be attended to and given the same platform without any preferential treatment.”

Ojua future lauded the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, for constituting a reliable committee to supervise the examination, while urging the management to increase the sitting capacity for the examination and also set up a stronger online network for the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Joy Affe, a candidate from Delta who spoke to NAN said although the network was slow initially, she was able to finish the test in good time.

Another candidate commended the orderly conduct of the examination, stating that he made the school his first choice because of the VC's drive for excellence.

The Post UTME comes after the recent suspension of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
