UniJos ASUU Celebrates Retired Members

23 retired members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos (UniJos) Chapter have been honoured by current members of the union.

The event where the former members who retired from active service in 2022 were appreciated took place in Jos.

Associate Prof. Lazarus Maigoro, the Chairman of the union in the university, who spoke during the event said it was the first time such would take place in the chapter.

Maigoro stated that the decision to hold the event was aimed at appreciating them for their meritorious service while they were members of the chapter.

He further thank God for sparing their lives throughout the years of service.

”This event is the first of its kind in the history of ASUU Unijos and we decided to put this together to appreciate our senior colleagues and members for exiting from service.

”It is a tradition in this chapter that when a colleague dies, we give the family N3 million, but what about the living?

”These are people who have put in years in the service of the university and this union, and so we are here to celebrate them,” he said.

The Chairman vowed to make the event an annual one which would encourage current members to be more committed to their duties.

Prof. Patricia Lar, the chairman of the event, lauded ASUU for organising the occasion, urging the union to keep up the good work.

Prof. Gray Ejikeme, a beneficiary of the honour who was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration at the university, appreciated ASUU for celebrating him and other retired members of the union.
