UNILORIN Defends Increased Fees, Says Still On Lower Side

The Dean of Student Affairs, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has reacted to the increased fees by the institution, arguing that its charges remain on the lower side compared to other Federal Universities in Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists at the University on Wednesday, Yakubu said the increase became necessary due to the economic situation of the country.

He, however, noted that components that make up the institution's charges including accommodation and matriculation fees among others were not affected by the increase.

The Dean also stated that the immediate past and current Student Union leaders were carried along in the discussion around the addition.

Yakubu urged the students to comply with the change, noting that the Student Affairs Unit would commence the accommodation balloting for the returning students soon.

He noted that students who are yet to pay the school charges would not be allowed to participate in the balloting.

He further maintained that the Student Affairs Unit had made special security arrangements within and outside the campus.

“We have held meetings with the former Divisional Police Office of F-Division, the Alangua of Tanke and more than 25 Magajis on the safety of students within and outside the campus, especially at Oke-Odo.

“A committee has been set up to ensure all habitants of Oke-Odo and the university campus sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said.

Yakubu explained that the Unit was conducting the hostel balloting for new students before the resumption of academic activities on campus, noting that it was to ensure that students secure accommodation early enough.
