UNILORIN VC Seeks NUC's Intervention In Varsities' Manpower Shortage

UNILORIN VC Seeks NUC's Intervention In Varsities' Manpower

Professor Wahab Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has requested the National Universities Commission (NUC) to join the Federal Government in addressing the issue of the shortage of personnel experienced in the past five years.

The VC, according to s statement published in the university bulletin, made the call during his visit to the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris Maiyaki in his office in Abuja.

According to him, the embargo placed on employment in federal universities has affected productivity in the institutions over the years.

Egbewole, therefore, recommended the intervention of the NUC as an intermediary between universities and the federal government in considering the possibilities of replacing retired or late personnel as well as those who have left the system for other pursuits.

This, he maintained would help in enhancing the productivity of federal universities across the country.

The VC stated that his visit was an effort to recognise, praise and reiterate the NUC's continuous support of UNILORIN over the years.

He also congratulated Maiyaki on his new appointment stating; “Your appointment as the Executive Secretary is like having a round peg in a round hole because you are a man who has seen it all as far as NUC is concerned.”

Enjoining Maiyaki to consolidate the commendable contributions of the past Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, Egbewole added; "I have no doubt that you will consolidate on the foundation and successes of your predecessors to take university education to the next level.”

The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law seized the opportunity to invite the Acting Executive Secretary to the International Conference of the Consortium of Universities in Kwara State, KU8 which is to hold at the UNILORINUILL between August 7 and 9, 2023.
