UNIZIK Seeks Alumni Support To Achieve Varsity's Vision

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has solicited the support of the institution's alumni body in achieving its vision of ranking first in the country.

Prof. Charles Esimone, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, made the appeal at the inauguration of five new ultra-modern offices for the Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the institution.

According to him, the current state of education facilities has shown the government's incapability to provide for the institution alone.

“The funding for the remodelled offices was attracted by Dr Joseph Onyejiaka of the Department of Estate Management through the Chief Executive Officer of Arnold and Associates, Mr Arnold Ekweoba.

“Also, the support of the Chief Executive Officer of Sure Homes and Land, Mr Osorachukwu Ani, was all aimed at solving the office space challenge in the department.

“I  commend Dr Onyejiaka for attracting the project. I need to emphasise that time has come for the university Alumni to increase its contribution to the development of the university.

“We also urge well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to give back to the society by investing in the education sector, ” he said.

Esimone added that he had approved the commencement of three programmes at the university including Water Resources, Urban and Rural Planning and Maritime Institute under the faculty.

Dr Celestine Ugonabo, the Head of Department, Estate Management thanked the VC for approving the remodelling of the offices, noting that the development would create a conducive environment for the staff's improved productivity.

Ekweoba, one of the benefactors, said the remodelling became necessary to address the space challenge affecting lecturers in the department and the university at large.

Ani who also contributed to the renovation advised the institution to ensure regular and adequate maintenance of the facilities.

 Speaking earlier,

Onyejiaka said the benefactors graduated from the Department of Estate Management of the university in 2015.

The alumnus promised continued efforts to support the university in similar protests.
