UNN Produces 246 First Class Graduates In 50th Convocation

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) will produce 246 first-class graduates in its 50th convocation.

The disclosure was made by the institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof Charles Igwe, on Wednesday at the pre-convocation press briefing held in the main auditorium of the Enugu campus of the university.

Igwe said the convocation which covers the 2019/2020 academic session would take place on March 24 and March 25.

He added that 14,308 graduands would be awarded Bachelor’s degrees during the event.

“I am proud to announce that a total of 246 of these graduands have bagged the First Class Honours degrees of the university,” he said.

He further disclosed that 5,092 graduated with second class upper, 7,865 with second class lower,  1,088 graduated with third class and 17 persons bagged pass degree.

Igwe noted that 96 Diplomas of the university will also be awarded on the same day.

According to the VC,  the university will award Post-graduate degrees to 2,482 graduands while 618 persons will be awarded Doctorate degrees on Saturday, March 25. 

He added that 1,690 would receive Master's degrees in various disciplines.

Igwe added: “Similarly, the Postgraduate diploma of the university will also be awarded to 174 persons.

“For the records, these figures represent significant improvements in the numbers we graduated at the 49th convocation.” 

The VC also announced that Honorary Doctorate degrees would be awarded to four distinguished Nigerians who have made remarkable contributions to their respective fields and to society in Nigeria. The recipients include Justice Mary Odili, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Obioha Okoroafo, the Chairman and Group Managing Director of Hob-ark International Limited, and Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Managing Director of Zenith Bank.

Also, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State will receive a Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) degree. The convocation ceremony will take place at the Nsukka campus of the university.

Igwe also highlighted some of the management's achievements since the previous convocation in 2021, such as the completion of the UNN medical centre complex in Nsukka through IGR.
