The Lagos State Command has debunked reports that there was any form of ethnic clash in Iyana Iba, Alaba Rago, and Ojo areas of the state a few miles away from the Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday.

There was a clash in LASU, Ojo axis along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Monday where men were seen wielding sticks and destroying vehicles parked in front of the university.

According to the Command's Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi the mayhem was a result of a disagreement between members of the transport unions.

Olumuyiwa in a statement obtained by AllNews Nigeria said the clash involved the commercial motorcycle unit of the union protesting over an increment in tariff.

Adejobi said that the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered for immediate deployment of additional police personnel to the area to maintain law and order.

When we further asked about the cause of the LASU mayhem, Adejobi emphasized the clash had nothing to do with any form of ethnic group clash as reported by other online news website sites.

"The command wishes to debunk the rumours that the disagreement, not violence as being peddled in the social media, is between some ethnic groups," he said.

"Without mincing words, the incident has no ethnic colouration whatsoever but a mere conflict between transport unions and their Okada units on ticketing and increment in tariff”.

AllNews Nigeria understands that leaders of the road transport union have been summoned and further investigation ongoing.
