Another major update in today's (Saturday) Edo governorship election is that the All Progressives Congress (APC) comprehensively defeated the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Godwin Obaseki at Ward 10, PU 001, Estako West Local Government Area, which happens to be APC stalwart, Adams Oshiomhole's polling unit.
AllNews understands that while the APC polled 1,201 votes, the PDP polled no vote in the unit, according to genuine announced result.
After weeks of acrimonious campaigns, the people of Edo State trooped out, amid tension, to elect a governor that will manage the state in the next four years.
Fourteen political parties fielded candidates for the election, but the contest was apparently a straight fight between incumbent Obaseki of the PDP and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
Obaseki is running for reelection on the platform of the PDP after being denied renomination by the APC arising from his falling out with Oshiomhole who was then the national chairman of the party.
Results have been trickling in from each polling unit in Edo State. And courtesy of AllNews' trustable observers on the ground, this news medium has been able to provide readers with real-time updates. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the hierarchy of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not yet announced any official result.
