US: Black Woman Gunned Down By White Neighbour During Confro

A 58-year-old woman named Ajike Owens has been shot and killed by her white neighbour in Florida, United States.

The yet-to-be-identified mother of four was reportedly shot through the door in front of her five-year-old son after her neighbour complained about her children playing outside.

The cops are yet to make an arrest due to the 'stand your ground' law in the state, according to a Daily Mail report on Tuesday.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident, a civil rights attorney, Ben Crump revealed that the children of the deceased were playing in a field near an apartment complex in Ocala, Florida on Friday when her neighbour started yelling at them to leave her land while calling them racial slurs.

Crump said the children left the field but forgot to take their iPad and had to return to get it when the white lady hurled it at one of them, hitting the boy on the head with it.

Owens went to the irate woman to speak with her about what happened and the latter fired through the door, hitting the mother of four children who later died at the hospital from injuries sustained from the gunshot.

While confirming the identity of the shooter, Police Marion County Sheriff, Billy Woods, said the authorities are working to determine what role the state's 'stand your ground' law might play in the tragedy.

Residents of the state have been given permission to use deadly force if they feel their lives are in danger under the 'stand your ground' Florida law.
