US Elections 2020: 'I Don't Trust Donald Trump' - Biden

US Elections 2020: 'I Don't Trust Donald Trump' - Biden

Democratic Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden, says that Trump's inability to effectively contain the pandemic in the United States is enough to "disqualify" him for the presidency, stating that he did not "trust Donald Trump".

Biden reasoned that Trump's duty was to protect "the American people", something that Biden claims Trump wouldn't do.

He said that Trump was making the issue of vaccine creation political, and that the claims publicly made by Trump were to be distrusted.

“The president’s first responsibility is to protect the American people, and he won’t. And it’s utterly disqualifying,” Biden said to journalists.

“So let me be clear: I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don’t trust Donald Trump. At this moment the American people can’t either.”

Although Trump had claimed that in the coming few weeks, his administration would provide a vaccine, a health expert within the Trump administration said that there would be no vaccine for a broader use until "third quarter 2021."

Trump had claimed, “We’re within weeks of getting it, you know — could be three weeks, four weeks,” at a town hall session.

Following that claim, he revised his statement, saying that the vaccine could be available in “four weeks, it could be eight weeks.”

Speaking to members of the Congress, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert Redfield, said, “I think there will be (a) vaccine that initially will be available sometime between November and December, but very limited supply and will have to be prioritized.

“If you’re asking me when is it going to be generally available to the American public so we can begin to take advantage of (a) vaccine to get back to our regular life, I think we’re probably looking at late second quarter, third quarter 2021.”

Responding to the question of why he was downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic, Trump said, “I didn’t downplay it. I actually, in many ways, I up-played it in terms of action.”
