US citizens have been ordered by the State Department to leave Iraq "immediately," this is coming after the US killed a top Iranian commander, Qasem Soleimani, in an unexpected air strike at Baghdad's international airport.
In a tweet, the State Department instructed, “Due to heightened tensions in Iraq and the region, we urge US citizens to depart Iraq immediately."
“Due to Iranian-backed militia attacks at the US Embassy compound, all consular operations are suspended. US citizens should not approach the Embassy.”

Earlier in the week, Iranian protesters laid siege at the US embassy in the country in the building tensions between both nations.
It was announced on Friday by the US that it had killed the commander of the Quds Force of Iran and his deputy chief in an air strike
