US ambassador residing in the capital city of Brasilia, has said that Brazil would face "consequences" if the South American country should contract Huawei, Chinese telecoms company, for its 5G network.
Ambassador Todd Chapman warned, “I wouldn’t say there would be retaliation, but there would be consequences.”
Over allegations that the Chinese Government was spying on data, the US has been lobbying countries around the world to boycott the telcoms company.

Chapman stated, “At any time, the Chinese government could ask Huawei to send it information.
“There’s no purely American company in the running. I’m not saying this to make a billion dollars. It’s a matter of national security.”
He also stated that of Brazil should go ahead with its plan, it would turn away investors after it had been warned by the US of a company that it says breaches the privacy of individuals and countries.
“The US position is to alert our allies and friends, such as Brazil, so they know who they’re working with,” he added.
