UTME 2021: JAMB Rolls Out Action Plans for CBT Centres (ICYMI)

UTME 2021: JAMB Rolls Out Action Plans for CBT Centres (ICYM

Ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2021, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rolled out the modus operandi for CBT centres and other critical stakeholders.

Consequently, the Board said for registration for the UTME 2021 to be successfully initiated by prospective candidates, such candidates must have obtained their National Identity Number (NIN) from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar, JAMB, at a virtual meeting with all Directors and Coordinators of the Board, the Chief Technical Advisors, the Telcos i.e, MTN, Airtel and 9mobil and the Board service providers; Sidmach, Digital Pulse, Morgen Green, Simplex,Multilent, Core Grade etc held on Friday, 26th March, 2021, said the use of NIN as a precondition for UTME/DE was a decision of the Federal Government to address diverse challenges of identity theft, among others.

He also hinted during the interaction that JAMB would be extending some of the essential services hitherto restricted to its Professional Registration Centres (PRC) and Professional Testing Centres (PTC) to high-class CBT centres that have not been involved in any form of infractions.

The Registrar warned those who might want to test the resolve of the Board by going against the established rules to desist from such. He said, henceforth, any proprietor with more than one centre who commits any infraction in one of his centres would have all his other centres de-accredited as an infraction committed in one centre affects all other centres owned by the same proprietor.

Prof. Oloyede further reminded the CBT centre owners to take cognizance of the extant protocols on COVID-19. As such, he declared that the Board would not condone the use of any CBT centre as a convergence point for NIMC registration to guard against overcrowding that would negate the principle of social distancing being canvassed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

He reiterated that all CBT centres must have a very spacious holding room not too far from the venue of the examination, with adequate CCTV coverage configured in such a way as to enable accurate viewing of footages.

The CBT centres are to take advantage of 20 access codes provided to each centre with a view to having a seamless registration and crowd control mechanism.

In addition, the centres are to provide a functional public address system to pass vital messages or reminders whenever the need arises.

Prof. Oloyede also told the CBT centres that all picture capturing must be taken with a white background while declaring that any centre that uploads unclear pictures would be treated as an accomplice in the perpetration of registration infractions.

The CBT centres are warned not to charge more that 700 naira as registration fees, while urging them to guard their SIM cards jealously.

In the same vein, the Registrar warned against group registration stating that centres caught involving in such would be delisted. He added that candidates who failed biometric verification would not be allowed to enter the hall. At any rate, such candidates would not be able to take the examination as only the biometrics of candidates could authenticate their access to the questions.

The NIMC Director of Legal and Regulatory Services, Ms Hadiza Dagabana represented the Director-General, NIMC and made quality contributions as the Registrar gave her the opportunity to answer all questions related to NIMC.
