'UY Scuti': Olamide Speaks On Latest Album, Credits Son For

In a recent interview with Apple Music, Nigerian rapper, Olamide Adedeji revealed some facts on the making of his new album 'UY Scuti'.

Recall that the rapper dropped his ninth studio album on June 18, barely eight months after the release of 'Carpe Diem'.

Speaking on why he titled the album 'UY Scuti', he said his son was the inspiration behind it.

“My son is a huge fan of astrology, and one day he asked me what the biggest star in the universe was. I found out; it stuck in my head and I titled the project that because it’s the biggest move I’ve made in my career.”

The 'Shakiti Bobo' crooner added that being a full-time pop album, 'UY Scuti' is above every other project he has ever done.

Olamide also joined American OAP, Nadeska Alexis on her Apple Music Radio show, 'The Nadeska Show' to further discuss the album.

On how he is evolving from the rap star everyone knows, he said:

"From way back, the regular thing I used to do is basically rap music, street music. But this time around, I'm just switching the game up a little bit. Guess I've always wanted to tap into different elements of everything I feel on the inside and just live my life to the fullest.

"I might as well just try something else entirely and I'm really happy for having the courage to tap into something new entirely that I've never done before. This is a full-time pop project and I'm happy I'm doing it coz I've always wanted to.

On how he switched his singing style from rap to pop in the album, Olamide said, “Man, I don't know. Sometimes you just get carried away by the madness and the fame, you know? Everything was just crazy and too much. Like, I get carried away sometimes. Like, every time I'm working on a project, I always tell myself, "Oh, this time around I'm gonna do something fresh, I want to do a pop album," and before you know it, I'm rapping.

"Before you know it I'm dropping rap songs and all that so this time around I just had to try my best possible. But one night I started shutting out every energy and everyone around me that I know very well that no matter what if they heard the idea in my head or they heard my new sound, they would be, like, "Nah, nah, let's not do that, let's stick to the old ways."

"I had to shut them out first, take all those people out of my life for a while - while I'm in the process of making a project just so I could focus. As well, I prayed, I did a lot of studying online and I learned some new stuff, and I brought new guys around me guys that could see the same vision in my head and the things I really want to achieve in music and how farther I want to go.

"And I think these are the things that I did that made it work this time around and I'm grateful to them.”
