Van Nistelrooy Steps Down As PSV Manager

Ruud van Nistelrooy has parted ways with PSV Eindhoven before the final game of the season, a club statement said.

His reason for resigning was attributed to "a lack of support within the club" despite that talks about his future were set for Sunday.

"Van Nistelrooy told the first-team squad and coaching staff that he would be stepping down with immediate effect, due to a lack of support within the club," a PSV statement read.

The club went further to note that they "regretted" his decision while appreciating him for the honours PSV claimed during his stint.

"PSV regrets his decision and is grateful to him for winning the Johan Cruijff Shield and the Dutch Cup, and hopes to finish the season in second place," it added.

In Van Nistelrooy's absence, assistant coach Fred Rutten will temporarily take over.
