Verstappen Claims Record-Breaking 16th Win Of 2023 F1 Season

World champion Max Verstappen claimed a record-breaking 16th win of the 2023 Formula One season at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 26-year-old Dutchman clocked 13.875 seconds to win the race from third on the grid, crossing the line well clear of second-placed Lewis Hamilton, who started sixth, and pole-sitter Charles Leclerc, who finished third ahead of his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.

The win marked Verstappen's fifth win in Mexico and drew him level with four-time world champion Alain Prost on 51 Formula One victories.

Only Sebastian Vettel (53), Michael Schumacher (91) and Hamilton (103) have won more.

It also extends his tally to an 18th podium finish this year, surpassing the record of 15 wins in a year he set last season. It is just incredible. To win from P3 is just amazing.

"I started P3 and the car was really great. It was a very strong race and now I don't know — more wins, maybe 17 or 18!" said Verstappen.

Should Verstappen keep winning, he could extend his tally to 19 by the end of the year.
