Veteran Nigerian Singer Chris Ajilo Passes On At 91

Veteran highlife singer Chris Ajilo has passed on at the age of 91.

The highlife icon died on Saturday morning after he was taken to Wesley Guild Hospital, reports said.

Chris Ajilo will be remembered for his hit, Eko O Gba Gbere. The song was remixed in 2016, 60 years after its first release to feature Banky W and Korede Sax.

Speaking on his death, fellow musician Orlando Julius and his partner Latoya Aduke revealed that Ajilo was fine when they paid him a visit on Thursday.

"It's a painful loss for us. I took Orlando to see him on Thursday at his house. Pa was so happy", said Latoya, Orlando Julius'wife.

Pa Christopher Ajilore hailed from Ijebu-Ijesa and was also a producer who collaborated with contemporaries like Victor OlaiyaBobby Benson, and others.

He was a saxophonist who studied Music at the Central School of Music & Dance in London's West End in the 1950s.

He returned to Nigeria where he worked as a producer with Polygraph Records, working on several albums, most notably Chief Olisa Osondu's Osondi Owendi.
