Veteran Thiago Signs 1-Year Extension At Chelsea

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva, the 38-year-old Brazil defender, is considered a world-class talent, has been handed a 1-year contract extension at Chelsea.

His experience, quality, and leadership skills are unparalleled, making him an invaluable asset to any team.

Thiago signed a one-year contract extension with Chelsea, keeping him in west London until the summer of 2024. He joined the Premier League club in 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain and immediately made an impact by helping the team claim the Champions League title.

With 106 appearances for Chelsea and 113 caps for Brazil, Thiago has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the sport. In 2021, he added to his impressive list of accolades by winning the Uefa Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

"When I signed my first contract here, it was for just one year. Now it's already the fourth! I could not have imagined that, but it's a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea," Thiago said of his extension.

Thiago's leadership skills were on full display last year when he captained Brazil at the World Cup. Although they lost in the quarterfinals to Croatia, Thiago's efforts did not go unnoticed. Chelsea Chairman Todd Boehly praised the veteran defender, saying, "His experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward."

As Chelsea prepares to visit West Ham United on Saturday and face Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League last-16 first-leg tie on Wednesday, Thiago's veteran presence and defensive prowess will be crucial to the team's success.
