VIDEO: Emefiele's Arrest Confirmed By DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has officially confirmed the arrest of Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Emefiele was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on Friday and has been replaced by Folasodun Shonubi, who is now the acting governor of the apex bank.

Amid speculations and earlier reports that Emefiele was picked up by the security agency, DSS Spokesman, Peter Afunanya has now confirmed the arrest.

In a statement on Saturday, Afunanya said Emefiele is in DSS custody for "investigative reasons", enjoining members of the public and the press to be mindful of the narratives they share about the development.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.

“The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this”, he stated.

A video of Emefiele being put in a jet after his apprehension has been uploaded online.

Surrounded by plainclothes security agents, the embattled former CBN governor alights from a Hilux vehicle and boards the aircraft while an individual holds the handcuffs presumably used on him.
