...FFK Says Past Battles With Buhari Were Only Political

Femi Fani-Kayode has stated that his battles against President Muhammadu Buhari were only political.

Recall that Fani-Kayode on Thursday, September 16, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after meeting Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fani Kayode stated that today’s main issue is not about Buhari or about him but about helping poor Nigerians.

According to him, he criticized the President in the past and done it effectively when he felt it was appropriate to do so, also noted that he never stated that he is an angel or he is a devil, but Nigeria is fighting a war that needs everyone to be united.

FFK said, “However, having moved closer to him (Buhari) over the last few months, I have discovered a lot of things that I did not know before; there is a lot going on behind the scenes,” the former PDP chieftain said.

“The most important thing is this – if I believe in a certain philosophy or I believe that we should move in a certain direction, and I am getting positive responses when I act from within the family as it were, and do so behind closed doors and ensure that change is effected in terms of policy, the way in which the country is run, the way in which disputes are settled among our various people and in terms of war against terror, and I get positive results on the consequence of my personal contributions at various levels; then I have to respect that.

“Over the last few years, I spoke against him (Buhari) probably more than anybody else in this country. I am not saying Mr President is an angel and I am certainly not saying he is a demon; I am saying he is a man like every other man.”

He added that, “I am not the first to defect from a political party. Do all other defectors take back what they say?

“Now is a time to work with Buhari to move the nation forward,” he said.

Fani-Kayode commended Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State for uniting the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he would not have joined the ruling party if not for Buni.

He said that people should be treated fairly, adding that Nigerians shouldn’t fight each other on religious and ethnic grounds.

The minister however warned that he won’t attack the PDP until they try to attack him.

He also dismissed reports that he left the PDP for financial gains, stressing that he is a very rich man and would have left the PDP a long time ago if he was looking for money.
