A zoo worker in a Jamaican zoo had an unforgettable encounter with a lion when his attempts at taunting the beast became a horrific experience.
The moment was captured at the zoo near Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, at around 4.22 pm on May 20 and about 15 awestruck people watched on as the lion closed its teeth around the man's finger, refusing to let go.
It all started when the zoo worker poked his finger into the enclosure where the creature was housed, trying to stroke its mane as visitors drank in the scene.
Things got really ugly when the lion clamped its jaws around the man's finger as he fought to save himself from the irate creature.
After some seconds of struggling, the zoo worker managed to pull himself off while using his legs as stability. It was not a happy ending as his finger was severed from his hand.
