Media personality Toke Makinwa has said that she would never understand why people go on social media to record themselves crying.
On the latest episode of her vlog 'TokeMoments, she said that social media is not really and people only put up the curated versions of themselves on it.
"I don't understand why you will literally put a camera in front of you, press record and start to cry. Do you have a mental illness? Are they sick in your family? Is something wrong with it? I don't get it," Makinwa said.
She said that it is a little bit understandable when somebody is speaking on a topic that is deep or resonates with them on a personal level, then bursts out in tears.
According to her crying on social media is a sort of amusement for people watching and they actually do not care about anyone.
The 37-year-old lifestyle entrepreneur further implored social media users to resist the urge to pick up their phones and record themselves crying.
Makinwa advised that taking a break from social media when one feels their mental health is unstable and talking to closed ones will help more than putting one's business on the internet.
"Please, let's stop recording ourselves crying. Whatever it is you need to cry about, you have family members who are real. You have friends who are real and are not people who are online who could give less sort of fuck. Why don't you call them and really cry?
"Whatever it is that you go through, honestly this is said from the bottom of my heart. If you really feel like your mental health is really getting n the way of what you are doing, take a break from it all. Go off Instagram for about two weeks. Go off social media.
"Connect again with the real world, real friends and real people around you. Take a moment for yourself coz sometimes, it can get a lot.
"Do not think that the people you are coming online to cry to actually give a fuck. They don't, you are only giving them ammunition. And then in two weeks when you feel better you will feel stupid."
