Video: Senator Abbo Fined N50m For Physical Assault Of Woman In Sex Toy Shop

Nigeria's youngest serving senator, Elisha Abbo, has been fined N50 million for assaulting a woman in a sex toy store by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The incident that occurred on May 11, 2019, was caught on camera, showing Abbo slapping a woman identified as Osimibibra Warmate, pregnant at the time, across the face.

What Happened?

Abbo, who had gone into the shop to make some purchases, was accompanied by three young women, one of whom started throwing up.

The owner of the shop had asked that the lady vomited outside and not inside the shop, following which the shop owner was accused by Abbo for poisoning the shop's air conditioner, causing the lady to throw up; an accusation that the shop owner promptly dispelled, citing the generally good condition the rest of the shop occupants were in.

That explanation led to an altercation, leading to a policeman - on Abbo's orders - to arrest the shop owner.

Calling for support, the shop owner placed a call to her father, telling him that she the lawmaker had ordered her detention.

Stepping in to mollify the situation, the shop owner's friend, pleaded with another man in the shop that was reportedly in Abbo's company, a move that led to her being assaulted by the lawmaker.

Abbo's Statement

Following the incident, Abbo released a statement saying, “It is with a deep sense of remorse and responsibility that I, Senator Ishaku Abbo profoundly apologize to all Nigerians, the Senate, the Peoples Democratic Party, my family as well as our mothers- the Nigerian women.

“I personally apologize to Babra (the lady he reportedly assaulted) and her family for my action which has brought immense discomfort to our body polity.

“Indeed, this episode has taught me a very great lesson both as a private citizen and a public officer particularly as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria upon whom public confidence is reposed.”
