Security operatives have arrested a local vigilante leader in Anambra State in connection with alleged kidnapping in a community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
It was learnt that four AK47 rifles were recovered from the suspect’s backyard and that the suspect had been instrumental in kidnap cases in the area.
Three other members of his group were also apprehended by the security operatives following a tip-off.
A source said that security men reportedly stormed the suspect’s house on Tuesday and took him away.
“Sometimes, he collected as low as N1.5m to N2m to free victims. Those AK-47 rifles were hidden in a thick banana plantation at the back of his house.
"Our people are being kidnapped almost on a daily basis without knowing that our vigilante leader was behind it,” the source said
Spokesman of the Police in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga said he had not received a report on the arrest, but he added that security operatives had been on the trail of criminal elements in the state for some time.
