Voter Apathy Mars Polls As Makinde Casts Vote In Oyo

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has cast his vote in the ongoing election.

Makinde cast his vote at Abayomi area, Iwo Road, in Unit 001, Ward 11 in Ibadan North East local government area in Ibadan.

Makinde is seeking another term in office on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, in some polling units, low turnout of voters characterised the ongoing gubernatorial and House of Assembly polls.

Some of the local government areas visited included Ido, Ibadan North, Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West.

It was observed that only a few people were seen in the queues in the majority of the polling units which contrasted with what was observed during the last presidential and National Assembly elections which held on February 25, 2023.

An Accord Party chieftain in the state, Adegboyega Adegoke, while speaking, noted that what happened may be a result of what has been occuring in the last few days in the state.

He appealed to the people of the state to come out and exercise their franchise.

"People are scared. It may be due to the prevailing security situation in the state in the last few days.

“People don’t want to be killed. But, I appeal to the people to come out and exercise their franchise.

“Nobody will harass anyone here. The security is tighter than the last elections."
