Voters Registration: INEC Debunks Extension Reports, Says Deadline Still In Play

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied extending the voters registration exercise, describing reports to the contrary as false.

It was previously reported that Aishatu Jibril Dukku, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, disclosed that the commission agreed to extend the ongoing exercise by 60 days.

Reacting to the reports, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated that the commission had not announced an extension to the June 30 deadline.

The announcement of the deadline was met with calls for an extension and a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had stopped INEC from ending the exercise until all eligible voters had completed their registration.
