WAEC debunks fake job advert, warns against scams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked a false job advertisement that has been circulating widely, cautioning that it is the work of deceitful individuals aiming to scam unsuspecting job seekers.

According to Movosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, the recruitment of supervisors is exclusively handled by the Ministries of Education, as clarified in a statement released on Friday.

Furthermore, WAEC also issued a stern warning to anyone involved in fraudulent activities to cease immediately and change their ways. The statement emphasizes that invigilators are selected by the schools presenting candidates for the examination.

Asserting its commitment to ethical standards, WAEC, as a globally recognized examining authority, stressed that it never demands monetary compensation from job applicants or potential employees in exchange for employment opportunities.

Additionally, WAEC advised individuals against engaging with any website other than its official platform, cautioning that doing so poses risks to their own safety.

“The attention of the West African Examinations Council has been drawn to an online portal advertising job offers purportedly from the Council.

“The said website advertised job offers that are supposedly meant for ad-hoc staff who would serve as supervisors and invigilators in the forthcoming West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2024.

“The Council would like to state categorically that the advert did not emanate from us and thereby disassociates itself from the fake job advert being circulated by unscrupulous individuals whose schemes are to defraud unsuspecting job-seekers.”

“WAEC is not currently engaging in recruitment activities. Whenever job opportunities arise, they are exclusively advertised through the daily newspapers, WAEC Nigeria’s official website (www.waecnigeria.org), and all of our social media platforms, the statement read.
