Erik ten Hag
Dutch manager Erik ten Hag has given his side of the story on why he dropped Cristiano Ronaldo again for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday night.
Ronaldo remained an unused substitute for the game at Old Trafford with the Red Devils overpowering Spurs 2-0.
It seems Ten Hag prefer Marcus Rashford over the 37-year-old up front, despite that Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Antonio Conte’s men last season.
This was evident in his statement when he said, "We are building for the future, but the future is tonight,” he explained to Amazon.
“You pick the line-up that you think has the most chance to win, and you have a game plan. Cristiano [Ronaldo] is an important player and he can make a goal.
“I have to deal with all the players’ expectations and I have to deal with developing this team. You have to make a game plan.
“This is a good Tottenham team, a compact, transition team with high intensity and I think this is the best way to start like this. You get more runs behind, more dynamic up front.”
The record of Cristiano Ronaldo against Tottenham up to yesterday's match was 14 goals in 20 games.
