We Didn't Have A Bit Of Luck — Tuchel Rues Loss To Man Cit

Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel, the Bayern Munich coach, expressed his belief that there was "no difference in class" between his team and Manchester City, despite their comfortable loss in the Champions League quarterfinal tie.

Tuchel, who took over from Julian Nagelsmann earlier this month, acknowledged that City was the best team in Europe and the most in-form team, but he felt that the results did not accurately reflect the performance on the field.

"We played against the best team in Europe today, the most in-form team in Europe," Tuchel said.

"We played completely on the same level, (but) in either game we didn't have even a tiny bit of luck."

Bayern had more possession than City in both legs and created several chances but only managed to score once, a late consolation goal from Joshua Kimmich's penalty in the second leg.

Despite missing a penalty in the match, Bayern striker Erling Haaland had an impressive performance, scoring two goals and setting up another for City across the two legs.

"To beat the best teams, not just to measure up against them but to beat them, you need to not only use 100 per cent of your chances, but you need luck, you need decisions to go your way and maybe even a deflection," added Tuchel.

Tuchel also expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing decisions, as he was sent to the stands after receiving a second yellow card and gave referee Clement Turpin "a grade F, from his first to his last decision."

Since Tuchel took over, Bayern have been eliminated from the Champions League and the German Cup, with their only remaining chance at the Bundesliga title.

They are currently two points clear of Dortmund in the Bundesliga with six matches to play and face in-form Mainz away on Saturday as they continue their pursuit of an 11th title, hoping to turn their fortunes around in the domestic league after their European exit.
