We have no interest in defecting to PDP — Amaechi APC faction denies working with Wike

We have no interest in defecting to PDP — Amaechi APC fact

Claims of working with Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been refuted by the dissolved All Progressives Congress (APC) faction in Rivers State, which is loyal to the state's former governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

In addition, the faction denied any involvement and said that its members had not joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was said at a news conference in Port Harcourt by Emeka Beke, the head of the dissolved faction.

The video, which went viral last Saturday and showed him grinning and hugging Wike at a Port Harcourt event, gave rise to rumours that he had broken up with Amaechi, which he addressed against the backdrop of before.

There was, however, no alliance of any kind with Wike, according to the beleaguered factional chairman. He clarified that the celebration he was at was a club member's 60th birthday, of which he is also a member.

Beke claimed that he saw Wike and numerous other people at the event, and they pleaded with him to say hello to the minister of the FCT.

“First there is no alignment whatsoever. Isobo Jack, chairman, Rivers State Taskforce on Sanitation, who happens to be the President of the Boys Company of Nigeria, which I’m a founding member, celebrated his 60th birthday and he invited us.

“I was coming from Okrika, where I went for a funeral. And there was the time frame for the party, 6 pm to 8 pm. When I walked into the hall at about 6 pm, I saw a group of people; I saw the minister, Wike, and a few other persons.

“I shook hands with a few of them and some of them said ‘Say hi to the Honourable Minister.’ I said no, there was no need. You know we don’t flow at all, at the end of the day, because I want to be a gentleman, I started shaking everybody.

“When I got to the honourable minister, we started yabbing – playful insults – and all that. You know, I noticed this will arise, I said to him, ‘Now I’m talking to you, tomorrow morning, pictures will trend.’

“And I said it clearly to Chief Emma Anyanwu, a PDP chieftain in the state, that ‘look I’m a member of Rotimi Amaechi political family and I remain firm with Rotimi Amaechi’.”

He went on to say that as a civilised person, when he encounters those in positions of power, etiquette requires him to socialise rather than argue with them or walk away, which he did.
