'We Need To Get Rid Of UEFA Nations League' - FIFA Chief Cal

FIFA's chief of global football development, Arsene Wenger has proposed a scrap of the UEFA Nations League as a result of the difficulty in understanding and should be replaced with World Cup and Euros with a 2-year interval.

The former Arsenal boss believes that the format of the competition is complicated, with teams splitting into four leagues and subgroups, and the threat of relegation and hope of promotion hanging over reach team.

Arsene said, “We need to get rid of the Nations League and find clearer events that everyone understands,” as reported by Bild.

“If you ask people in the street what the Nations League is, you won’t find many able to explain it.

“We need to have as few events as possible.

“One World Cup and one European Championship every other year would probably be more appropriate for a modern world”, Wenger added.

With the Euro 2020 now Euro 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation, the World Cup will also commence 2022 in Qatar, fatigue may set in for players.

There could be a possibility of more injuries for players than usually suggested by the 70-year old, French Coach.

Also on the quality of the competition, the French man added that it would devalue the importance and prestige of these International trophies holding them close to each other.

As they (Euros and World Cup) could be compared with UEFA Champions League which is played every year.

“I always tell people who say this that the image is not linked to the time you wait before playing again, but rather the quality of the competition,” he said.

“After all, people also watch the Champions League every year.”

He added: “Personally, I think it would be a great step forward."
